Title: Blue Crayon 24X18 Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB
Edits: When I put the picture in Photoshop I adjusted the levels to make the background darker and then added vibrancy to bring out the blue. There were some specs on the scanner that were visible in my picture so I used a black paintbrush to get rid of them. When I printed my 8X10 I could see the lines so I had to go back in and just paint the entire background a solid black.
Process: To get this shot I just threw some ribbon on a scanner and then put the crayon in place to make it look like it had drawn the ribbon. I chose this picture because it is one that I would hang in my home. I thought it was a cute idea for a baby room. I like the contrast of colors and simple design.

Title: Eternal Marriage 36X12 Date/Time: 5/14/11 1:30 PM Location: Salt Lake City
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 7.1 & 1/200 Camera: Nikon D40
Edits: The first thing I did was to use the auto merge option in Photoshop to make the panoramic picture. Next I adjusted the levels to add a little more contrast. Then I took the image into Camera Raw and painted blue on the sky and some light on the front of the temple. There were a few people in front of the temple that I had to get rid of using the spot removal and clone tools. I ran the picture through dynamic photo HDR to bring out some details in the sky and saturate the colors more. When I looked at the picture up close after all those edits I found that the sky was really pixelated. To fix this I used smart filters to add a palette knife filter over the sky only and then added a Gaussian blur on top of that as well.
Process: I took six pictures of the temple going from the top spire all the way down to the reflection to the spire and then merged them together in Photoshop. I drove down to Salt Lake specifically to take this picture of where my parents were married. I tried several different kinds of light and saturation but I tried to keep it like something my parents would like.

Night and Light

Title: Blurred Lights Date/Time: 6/10/11 11:00 PM Location: Rexburg
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 36 & 30 Camera: Nikon D40
I decided to go to the top of the stadium and point my camera down towards the intersection to get some of the cars passing by. I set the shutter to 30 seconds and compensated the exposure for the added light from the parking lot. I took the shot a few times but I liked how a lot of the lines in this picture were strong because everyone seemed to be going north or west.
Title: Light Graffiti Date/Time: 6/10/11 12:00 PM Location: Rexburg
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 11 & 30 Camera: Nikon D40
For this picture I put the shutter on 30 seconds and while it was open I outlined the A as many times as I could using a laser. I also flashed the scene quickly with a flashlight but it wasn't as light as I wanted so I also adjusted the levels in Photoshop to bring back the graffiti on the train.
Title: Camera Motion Date/Time: 6/10/11 11:00 PM Location: Rexburg
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 29 & 20 Camera: Nikon D40
I loved how this shot turned out. I decided I would put my camera on the tripod in my lap as my husband drove us down main street. The car moved the camera and bumped up and down a little bit on the road to get the effect I wanted while the shutter was open for 20 seconds.
Title: Light Painting Date/Time: 6/10/11 12:00 PM Location: Rexburg
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 8 & 30 Camera: Nikon D40
To get this picture I set my camera on a 30 second shutter while I flashed my flashlight all over the train. I tried to focus a lot on the part of the train closest to me because it was the farthest away from the present light. Traffic from the road added the light on the back end of the train. I also had my husband flash the laser along the track to add some definition there.

Fine Art Template

In PhotoShop I created rectangles and inserted a picture over it and created a clipping mask so that the picture only showed through the rectangles. I scanned my signature (wish I had better penmanship...) and added it as another layer on the template and lowered the opacity of it and placed it over the typed name. The only thing I had to change between the two templates was the picture with the clipping mask.

Edge Effects

Title: By the River Date/Time: 6/3/11 9:00 PM Location: Mesa Falls
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 5.6 & 1/60 Camera: Nikon D40 Fill Flash: 1/32
Since it was getting late and the light was low I used my fill flash to get them lighter but still adjusted the levels in PhotoShop to make it even better. I also added saturation on the trees and river but masked out the effect on Noell and Ronnie. To add the vignette edge I created a new black layer over the image and then deleted the middle of the layer using the marquee selection tool. I then lowered the opacity of the black layer. I added a five pixel white stroke on the middle selection for a more distinct line.

Title: On the Rocks Date/Time: 6/3/11 9:00 PM Location: Mesa Falls
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 5.6 & 1/60 Camera: Nikon D40 Fill Flash: 1/32
The first thing I did was to adjust the levels slightly before working on the edges. I edited the border on this image several times and found that the best way to start was by increasing the canvas size .1 inches all the way around with black as the fill color. I did this because I wanted a little distinction between the blue border and Noell's sweater. Next I increased the canvas size by an inch all the way around with the blue fill color selected from the sweater. Then I added a blue rectangle shape layer half an inch into the image. Next I added a layer mask and drew another rectangle but this time to fill the pixels just .25 inches inside the first rectangle. I reduced the opacity of the layer to 58% and added a motion blur of 45 pixels at 0 and 90 degrees.

Title: Ronnie and Noell Date/Time: 6/3/11 8:30 PM Location: Mesa Falls
F-stop & Shutter Speed: 5.6 & 1/60 Camera: Nikon D40
I adjusted the levels on this picture first to add more depth to the image. Next I added a white layer over the image and added a layer mask. I chose the hard circle brush and made it big enough to cover Ronnie and Noell's faces and painted black on the mask to bring back the picture. Next I just kept changing the size of the brush and the opacity and brought back several parts of the image. I added a text layer with their names and painted black on the layer mask to bring back dots from the picture over the O's in their names.

Scanography Collage

Title: Shells Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB Scanner

My plan with these scans was to make it so you could see all the different side of the shell because they all look awesome. In PhotoShop I selected each shell from the separate images and dragged them into a new one and placed them in a circle to show how it would be if the shell was rolling to each side. I had to copy one of the image because I only had one image of the back of the shell and I rotated the image to be on the other side of the circle. I adjusted the levels and used the spot removal tool so that the dust and things on the scanner would not be visible in the final picture.

Scanography Single Shots

Title: Hawaii Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB Scanner

I love and miss my home and family in Hawaii so I have lots of "Hawaiian" things around the house. I decided to just place a bunch of the stuff on the scanner and see how it turned out. After I uploaded them to PhotoShop I adjusted the levels and vibrance.

Title: Palm Tree Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB Scanner

I really liked the way my necklaces were sand and water colored so I decided to make a beach scene. I tree trunk is a piece of tapa cloth and the palm fronds are cut up pieces of ribbon. I scanned and uploaded the picture and then adjusted the levels and vibrance in PhotoShop.

Title: Crayola Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB Scanner

I placed the crayons on the scanner and put the ribbon on tope of the blue crayon. After I scanned and uploaded the image I adjusted the layers in photoshop and increased the vibrance. I selected the ribbon and moved it to be a straighter line.

Title: Blues Date/Time: 6/4/11 4:00 PM Location: Spori
F-stop & Shutter Speed: ? Camera: EPSON sRGB

I couldn't decide which of these I liked better so I decided to just post both. I did them the same way by just putting the ribbon on the scanner on top of the crayon. After I uploaded them to PhotoShop I adjusted the levels and vibrance.
